Today I want to tell you about changes to the upcoming annual IT Security Awareness training. This year’s content is from a different provider, which means all the modules will be new! I know that new content will help keep people engaged.

Important Information

• Annual Compliance Training for Current Employees
  • It’s time for the required Annual Compliance Training, which includes the IT Security Awareness training assignment.
  • This training will be assigned to UTK employees, which includes UTIA.
  • The training is to be assigned on or around 08/12/2026 and is due 12/31/2026.
  • All emails, including the original assignment and automated reminders, should come from K@TE.
  • UT has moved away from the training provider that we have been using for the past 10-15 years so please know you will be seeing fresh and current security awareness information.
  • As you know, UTIA’s security standards require the IT Security Awareness training be completed annually and anyone who does not complete by the deadline will have their NetID disabled.
  • For the past six years, this has been a manual process, meaning that I looked up each person’s transcript and if the training was not completed by the deadline, I had the NetID disabled.
  • In order to get a NetID enabled that person would call the HelpDesk and they would have a specific amount of time to complete the training or the NetID would be disabled again.
  • This year UT will do something similar across the System, but the process will be automated.
  • If you don’t finish the training by the deadline, the NetID will not be fully disabled; however, access to many UT resources like DASH, Canvas, email, OneDrive, Teams, and Microsoft 365 will be blocked.
  • In order to be unblocked, the user will log into K@TE, complete the training, and access will be restored.
  • I will send general reminders about the training in my newsletters as we get closer to the deadline.
