Good afternoon, everyone.

Today I want to let you all know that it is time for training. This week emails have been sent to UTIA faculty and staff, including student employees, to let you know that it is time to do your required annual UTIA compliance training.

  • The title of this year’s training is 2024-2025 UTK Compliance – <role-based group>.
  • The training was assigned on or around August 13.
  • The training will be due by December 31, but please do not wait until the last minute to complete.
  • The assignment and general reminder emails are automated and will come from The Compliance Committee at UTK using the address noreply@utk.edu.
  • In an effort to streamline the two sets of required training, security awareness and compliance, these have once again been bundled into one “assignment” with one due date, instead of security awareness being a separate assignment.
  • The overall training assignment should take about 2-1/2 to 3 hours, but you can see your status any time you log into K@TE <https://kate.tennessee.edu>.
  • You may take the training in the order of your choosing, but please make sure you do complete all modules.
  • I was not given the opportunity to preview the IT Security Awareness modules this year, but I can see that the IT Security 2024/25 General Awareness Training does have a set of 15 “precheck” questions; and if you pass this section, you only need to complete the conclusion for this set of modules.
  • The remaining modules do not have a precheck.
  • Specific reminders about the IT Security Awareness Training will continue to come from me.
  • As in the past, any user not completing the security awareness module by the deadline will still lose access to all Institute-owned and University-owned systems until the training has been completed.
  • Because I don’t own the overall assignment, I am unable to remove the IT Security Awareness training from any transcript.
    • If you have employees who are NOT considered a part of the UTIA workforce as defined in UTIA IT0123 – Security Awareness, Training, and Education Plan, please send me an email letting me know.
    • I will mark those persons “excused” provided that they do not fit the definition of workforce for the purpose of the security awareness training.
    • Those employees will still be responsible for completing the remainder of the compliance training that has been assigned, as these assignments are required by HR.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Thank you so much for all you do to protect the Institute and its data. I know that the training can be time-consuming, but I see evidence every day that it is helping UTIA faculty and staff remain aware of what to watch for.
